Main St/Goodman St Concept Design

City of Rochester, Monroe County, New York

SRF was a member of a consultant team working on a Traffic Impact Study & Concept Design for the Main Street/Goodman Street intersection and the surrounding neighborhood. A context sensitive approach was used to address safety, mobility, and parking concerns for all competing users on both roadways. Pedestrian enhancements and safety were a major focus of this study. Context sensitive transportation and land use-related techniques, strategies, and design elements were identified and selected based upon a detailed multi-modal assessment of each alternative. Transportation needs were balanced with the desire of the neighborhood to restore the intersection as an urban village center and a hub of community activity. The alternatives evaluated included a “road diet”, a roundabout, and complete re-alignment of the roadways.
